'Am I doing more to investigate bid to steal car piece by piece than police?'

A WICHELSTOWE woman who discovered some of her car had been stolen piece by piece says she is doing more to investigate the incident than the police.

Jo Clifford, of Cornwood Road, has had one rear tyre stolen along with one set of front grilles from her grey BMW 1 Series car.

"We have a dog who makes quite a lot of noise if someone is outside," said Jo.

"So we opened the door and saw a guy by my car.

"We didn't think anything of it and he said something along the lines of 'all right' to my partner before walking off.

"Around 10 minutes later, my son came home and I asked him if he saw anything or anyone outside and he said no.

"The car was locked and it is by the street lamp so it wasn't in a dark area or anything, but then we saw what had been taken.

"The whole thing has made me feel so unsafe, especially at how it was outside my own house."

Her appeal on social media has been shared by friends and family to spread the word and see if anyone was in the Cornwood Road area at the time.

The man is described as 5ft 10in, of medium build, with dark hair and he is believed to be in his 40s.

But Jo, 46, says she feels let down by Wiltshire Police who told her to contact the press and put the information on social media.

"It seems like I am doing more than them to investigate the incident," she said.

"I haven't heard from the police at all since we reported it. I went to the pub to see if they had CCTV and I know a nearby resident has cameras so I'm doing my best to check with them.

"The police haven't done anything to make sure we are all right or offer reassurance.

"The fact my partner actually saw the guy should hopefully be able to identify him but he just looked like he wasn't doing anything and after he spoke to him, he just walked away."

Wiltshire Police confirmed they are looking into the matter.

A spokesman said: "We are investigating an incident which occurred in Cornwood Road, Wichelstowe, between 9.30pm on February 28 and 7am on March 1. A wheel and front grill were stolen from a BMW 116D.

"We are carrying out enquiries into this incident including house to house enquiries and will be looking into any CCTV opportunities.

"We'd like to appeal to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area during this time to please get in touch. Call 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
