A car carrier with 10 vehicles — not new cars but vehicles being transferred from one lot to another, officials said — veered off the road and down the embankment around 4:15 a.m., officials said.

The crash occurred in the northbound lanes, just south of Escondido Canyon Road, in Agua Dulce.

California Highway Patrol officers are unsure what caused the driver to veer off the road. Drugs and alcohol are not considered factors, according to CHP officials.

No one was hurt when the car tumbled over the side, although four of the cars being transported were damaged in the fall.

Officers requested a "rotator," to pick up the car carrier, and then several other "light duty" tow trucks to pick up the carrier's cargo.
