Top 10 takeaways from 2015-16 fantasy basketball season

Both Draymond Green and Stephen Curry rose to another fantasy level in 2015-16.

Stephen Curry ^[1] and the Golden State Warriors ^[2] dominated the NBA stage this season, and you have to give them credit for that. Steve Kerr's squad put together a regular season that people will be talking about for a long time, led by Curry, Klay Thompson ^[3] and Draymond Green ^[4], and their historic run is certain to make a big imprint on the league going forward.

It's conceivable to think that teams will model themselves after the Warriors as closely as possible, even while lacking one critical ingredient: Curry. But in terms of assembling a roster of shooters who can also handle the ball and distribute, these are qualities that have to be trending up in the NBA based on the Warriors' incredible success.

Golden State wasn't the only storyline in 2015-16, though. San Antonio was also darn good. It's easy to forget about a Spurs team that led the league defensively and reached the 65-win mark, an incredible feat considering the way they managed to fly under the radar all season.

Defensively, the Spurs made a point to use their athletic wings on the perimeter, funneling shots to the paint, where veteran big men LaMarcus Aldridge ^[5] and Tim Duncan ^[6] stuffed their path to the basket. Like the Warriors' offensive blueprint, teams around the league are likely to learn from what Gregg Popovich and the Spurs did on the defensive side of the ball this season.

Another distinction between the Warriors and the Spurs is how much better the Warriors were from a fantasy perspective. While Golden State had three players in the top 20 of the ESPN Player Rater (Curry at No. 1, Green at No. 6 and Thompson at No. 17), the Spurs had Kawhi Leonard ^[7] at No. 7, LaMarcus Aldridge at No. 28 and nobody else in the top 100.
