A woman was killed in South Philadelphia when the parked car she was sitting in was struck Saturday afternoon by a motorist who was suspected of driving under the influence of intoxicants, police said.
Police said that, shortly after 3 p.m., the 59-year-old motorist was driving on the 1800 block of South 13th Street when he hit three parked cars, including the victim's vehicle, pushing it into a fourth parked car.
The motorist got out of his car and tried to remove the license plate from his vehicle, but was unable to do so and fled on foot, police said.
The victim was taken to Jefferson University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 4:36 p.m. Her identity has not been released.
Police said they were able to identify the driver and took him into custody at his house later that day. Authorities have not released his identity, pending approval of charges against him.
