When it comes to awards for police bravery, capturing a swan is probably way down the pecking order.
Nonetheless, these officers have every right to smile, having wrestled one of the hefty birds into a special protective bag in the back of their squad car after it landed on the northbound M5 near Stroud.
The bizarre sight mirrors a scene in the 2007 film Hot Fuzz, in which two officers – played by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost – catch a swan and bundle it into their police car.
Motorists on the M5 called Gloucestershire Police after seeing the feather-brained bird between junctions 13 and 14 at 1.30pm on Tuesday.
Happily, the plucky officers managed to catch it and take it to safety.
