OKLAHOMA - March Madness is alive and well in Oklahoma.
While two state schools will make an appearance in the big dance, another battle is heating up in the metro.
Animal Welfare is on a mission to find their top dog, by putting 64 K-9's in a unique "hoops-themed" adoption event.
Long before the Sooners take the court in Oklahoma City, 64 dogs are leaving it all in the halls of Animal Welfare.
"I'm just convinced that we're gonna have a winne, and a slam dunk by Saturday," said Julie Bank with Oklahoma City Animal Welfare.
Among those competing, a mix breed named Sooner, who's now facing off against Musketeer.
"The goal is to try to get them all a home," Bank said.
At Animal Welfare's 'March Madness Adoption Event,' the rules are simple.
If a dog's adopted, it's eliminated from the pool, till there's only one dog standing.
In this competition though, losing is winning, and no-one goes home empty pawed.
With donations from Walmart and PetSmart, all adopters go home with a care package.
"We have everything from dog food, to dog beds, to collars, to leashes," Bank said.
The pool is clearing fast.
In just three days, 18 dogs have been taken off the board.
"There's still a lot more that need a home, but we're 100 percent sure we're gonna have a winner by Saturday," Bank said.
Officials said the contest will continue if all dogs are not adopted by Saturday.
Top prize will go to whomever adopts the final dog.
