If you are a mixed martial arts fan with a special appreciation for the sport of jiu jitsu, the news that Mackenzie Dern's MMA debut is set for this summer has to bring a smile to your face.
On Thursday, it was announced that Dern, who is the world's top female BJJ black belt competitor by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF), has signed with Legacy FC, and her debut will take place on July 22 in Dallas[1] in the 115-pound strawweight division.
No opponent has been named at this time.
"I hope I can represent jiu-jitsu well and put on a good performance," said Dern, via Fighters Only. "Of course, I will try to be aggressive, but it's my first fight, so I will still feel everything, see what I have to improve."
For her MMA debut, Dern is training with former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson at The MMA Lab.
