In less than a week, we'll come face to face with New New Top Gear, constructed from the ashes left behind after Old New Top Gear (Clarkson, Hammond and May) moved over to Amazon[4]. But one of the most anticipated shows of the year won't be done after its first hour. This season, after each episode of "Top Gear" ends, doesn't turn off your television, lest you miss "Extra Gear[5]."
"Extra Gear" is a new follow-up that is basically a behind-the-scenes look at "Top Gear." According to the trailer below, there will be everything from extra content to actually bearing witness to how the TG sausage gets made. Better yet, our former coworker, Rory Reid, hosts it!
Joining Reid in his show is none other than Chris Harris, a man so comfortable in his tell-it-like-it-is attitude that he picked up a nifty little ban from none other than Ferrari itself[6]. If the term "dynamic duo" wasn't already in use by, well, just about every two-man operation on the planet, I'd apply it here.
Either way, get ready for our first look at New New Top Gear and "Extra Gear" on May 29. Those of us relying on BBC America to watch these shows will have to wait an extra day, and I'm pretty sure CBS would fire me if I suggested you pirate the show on Sunday night. Don't do that.
