A Mount Upton man was charged with several felonies this weekend after he allegedly assaulted a person's car with a baseball bat, according to state police.
Sidney troopers responded to a report of a physical dispute with a weapon outside of a home on Church Street in the town of Bainbridge at about 9:20 a.m. Saturday, according to a media release. An investigation determined that Donald M. Wilber, 33, had approached a vehicle that he was following after it stopped. One of the occupants of the vehicle, a female, had an order of protection against him.
When the woman would not leave the vehicle, Wilber struck the window and door with a baseball bat several times, causing damage, the release said. This caused the victim and the driver to receive lacerations to their heads from the broken glass.
Wilber was charged with second-degree assault, first-degree criminal contempt, third-degree criminal mischief and second-degree menacing, according to the release. He was arraigned at the Guilford Town Court and was sent to the Chenango County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $50,000 property bond. His next court date is pending.
Headline changed at 9 a.m. Oct. 27, as it is unclear who owned the car.
