Squeegeeing never seemed so spooky.
A Belmont businessman has combined his love for Halloween haunts with his car wash that opened earlier this year.
"I'm a Halloween nut," said David Warlick, owner of AquaWave Express Car Wash on Wilkinson Boulevard in Belmont.
Warlick opened AquaWave in April. The business offers top to bottom car washes ranging in price from $6 to $20. Want the top package? You can get more than you bargained for if you drive through on weekends before Halloween.
Warlick and his employees decided to have a little fun this holiday season. They've called in a makeup artist and picked out costumes to provide a creepy car wash called the Tunnel of Terror.
The experience costs $20 and includes a car wash with a side of spooks. You and your car full of people experience a haunt from the start with Dracula as the ticket taker and a classic horror film character at the exit. What goes on inside the tunnel? Warlick says to come find out, if you dare.
Warlick also plans to hold a trunk-or-treat event for kids on Halloween night. The business owner says he thinks the car wash haunt was a unique way of having guests feel protected, while getting into the Halloween spirit.
"And it doesn't break the bank," he said.
The Tunnel of Terror opened earlier this month. Warlick estimates seeing 120 cars go through last Saturday night.
"I was exhausted, but it was fun," Warlick said.
The Gaston County native labels himself a hands-on business owner
"I'm here every day washing cars," he said.
While Warlick says he's all about Halloween, he wants to embrace many holidays at the car wash. He's already envisioning a Whoville setting in Dr. Seuss' "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas."
What will he do for Thanksgiving? There might be some turkey costumes involved, he said.
