Man Shot In Attempted Carjacking In Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, SD

We're learning more about a shooting on the west side of Sioux Falls near the Empire Mall Friday night[1].

Sioux Falls police officer Sam Clemens says a couple from Oklahoma was sitting in their car outside the Red Rock Inn when a man opened the car door and started punching the driver.

Authorities say the driver had a conceal carry gun on him  and shot the suspect twice.

The suspect, 34-year-old Edward James LeBlanc of Bismarck, North Dakota, is still recovering in the hospital.  Clemens says he will likely face robbery charges.

"A concealed weapon carry, obviously that is anyone's choice to decide if they want to do that. In this case, it certainly worked out well for the victim.  He was able to defend himself and his property.  He wasn't trying to chase after the guy or do anything other than trying to stop that beating from happening," Clemens said.

Clemens says the victim will likely not face any charges in connection with this case.
