"Fast 8"[1] will feature the "most powerful villain" of the "Fast & Furious" franchise yet, according to Michelle Rodriguez.
The 38-year-old actress recently dished some details about the highly anticipated eighth installment of the "Fast & Furious" franchise in an interview with Entertainment Tonight[2], where she revealed that Charlize Theron's character will be the meanest big bad the crew has ever encountered.
"We're gonna go hard on this one," she told the publication of "Fast 8," adding, "Charlize Theron is, I think, the most powerful villain this franchise has ever seen."
In "Fast 8," Theron, 41, takes on the role of gun-toting villain Cipher. Not much is known about the Oscar winner's character for now, but Theron has already proven herself to be more than capable of portraying a convincing weapon-wielding warrior woman on the big screen, such as her recent "Mad Max: Fury Road" character, Imperator Furiosa.
Rodriguez added that she and Theron only worked together for two days, but this convinced her that there needs to be more female characters in the car racing movie franchise. "In order for me to be a part of the franchise in the future, they need to up the ante on the females. I mean, it's like a sausage factory in this thing," she told the publication. "I just need some more feminine energy. We need some more women on the good side."
Rodriguez's co-stars are equally excited about Theron's participation in the upcoming "Fast & Furious" movie. Tyrese Gibson told ET back in April that the actress' addition to the cast is a huge "step up." He said, "I feel like her coming on board— girl power. What we pride [ourselves in] in 'The Fast and Furious' [franchise] is a very diversified cast that's translating domestically and internationally in a major way."
"When you look at the movie poster and you look to the left, you look to the right, I'm like, 'Fellas, we need some more women in here, man. We got to change this thing up a bit.' We have bits and pieces of power women in it, but we needed to bring it up a notch. [We were] looking into the Ronda Rouseys, Michelle Rodriguez has been holding it down since day one, but we got Jordana Brewster and Charlize, we're really stepping it up," the actor, who plays Roman Pearce in the films, added.
"Fast & Furious 8" is slated to hit theaters April 14, 2017.
