DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, BROOKLYN — A man who confessed to hitting a 71-year-old woman while leading the police on a car chase through Brooklyn two weeks ago was held on $10,000 cash bail Thursday, a representative from the Brooklyn DA's office said. Todd Foy, a 34-year-old from Cobble Hill, turned himself in to Bed-Stuy's 79th precinct facility[1] on Tuesday night and was arrested inside the precinct, police said. Foy was charged with grand larceny, assault, burglary, criminal possession of stolen property, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless endangerment, the NYPD said.
Foy had stolen a woman's purse at Metro Urgicare, an urgent care clinic, in 308 Graham Ave. on Jan. 10, the night of the car chase, police said. According to the criminal complaint, the woman whose purse he allegedly stole was working at the care center at the time and had put her purse down unattended in the waiting room. Investigators found a check made out to the woman's husband in Foy's 1999 gold minivan, the complaint said.
Police then approached to arrest Foy for the alleged theft when he got into his van and led several cop cars on a high-speed car chase through Williamsburg and Bed-Stuy, witnesses told Patch.
Driving "like a bat out of hell" according to one witness, Foy hit the elderly woman on Myrtle Avenue in Bed-Stuy at around 5:30 p.m., breaking her leg, and rammed into several parked cars[2], including one police car head-on. He drove onto several sidewalks in close range of dozens of pedestrians, flew through stoplights and drove in the wrong lane multiple times, according to witnesses and the criminal complaint. He was able to flee the scene on foot, cops said. Investigators had been searching for him for the past two weeks.
Foy's attorney is Leon Schrage, and his next court date is expected to be Jan. 30, according to the Brooklyn DA's office.
