A Tesla driver was left stranded after he stopped his electric car in the middle of the desert outside Las Vegas in an area without cell phone coverage.
Ryan Negri started his car using his cell phone app instead of keys and drove six miles into the desert along with his wife Amy.
When they decided to return home, Negri went to adjust the beds in the back of his car for his two dogs, so left the driver seat.

Unfortunately, Negri left the keys of his car, pictured, at home and after he stopped briefly, he could not restart the electric motor with his cell phone app because he did not have a signal
Unfortunately, he had left the car's key at home and without cell phone signal, he could not restart the electric motor through the app.
Tesla owners are supplied with two sets of keys with the car which are the primary way of opening and operating the vehicle. As a back-up, the company designed a cellphone app which can allow the driver to access their vehicle if they have forgotten their keys - however this system requires a phone signal.
The company advises owners to always bring their keys with them in case of failure.
Instead, his wife had to walk two miles along the road until she could reacquire a signal and call a friend to collect her so she could return home, pick up the keys and rescue her husband.
Negri explained the situation on his Instagram feed.
'Stranded 6 miles from home, 2 miles from cell service; our Saturday morning. The thought was to go for a quick drive to take some photos of the freshly-fallen mountain snow.
Negri explained his tale of woe to his followers in Instagram while praising his wife Amy
Amy Negri told her followers that she predicted they would get stranded in the electric car
'Having only my phone in my pocket, I unlocked and started the car with it, and we left.
'Six miles down the road we decided to turn back, but before that, had to adjust Mozy & Millie's car bed, so I exited the vehicle... bad idea. Need to restart the car now, but, with no cell service, my phone can't connect to the car to unlock it. Even with cell service, the car would also need cell service to receive the signal to unlock.
'Amy, the hero she is, started running to reach cell service height. After about 2 miles she reached signal and called a friend for a ride to the house to grab the key fob. The key that will always be with me (now) when I drive that car.'
Negri told Mashable[4]: 'Forgot when you get out of the drivers seat, you have to re-initiate the sequence to unlock keyless driving.
'After I adjusted the dogs bed, I got back in and I had access to the cars display panel and all options besides to drive! I could even play music from my phone because my phone was synced via Bluetooth.'
